Salsa

You don't need to know how to dance, just let yourself go. Step by step, until the whole group moves to the same beat.

Duration
60 min
Level
Beginners, no partner needed

What it is

Salsa is a social dance with Caribbean roots that you learn by copying, one step at a time. You don't need a partner or any experience: we start with the basics as a group and add simple turns and moves as we go.

With headphones the music sounds just as good in the back row as in the front, and the teacher can count the beats straight into your ear without shouting. It is one of the activities where the silent disco magic shows most: from the outside, a group dancing in total silence; from the inside, a full-volume Latin dance floor.

Switching partners is part of the fun, so it is as good an excuse to move as it is to meet new people.

How it works

  1. Put on your headphones and warm up moving hips and shoulders to the music.
  2. Basic step as a group, counting the beats, until it comes naturally.
  3. Variations and first turns, still without a partner.
  4. Partner work with rotation: every few minutes you switch partners.
  5. A short final routine that we all dance together.
